Presenting: Yanick Etienne

yanick_pictureYanick Etienne was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Her singing style combines Jazz, Soul, R&B, Pop, World and Caribbean flavors to make her voice a completely distinctive, moving and captivating sound.   Some of her earlier credits include songs such as “Toi” recorded with Haitian crooner Jose Tavernier, “Caribbean Girls” with Austin Tuitt from Trinidad. Her singing career started by doing lead and back-up vocals with Elite Orchestra on Dife/Electric Konpa albums. She also recorded background vocal tracks for the Italian Rock & Roll group “Rocking Chairs” on their album “No Sad Goodbyes.”

Yanick was the background vocalist on Roxy Music’s album “Avalon,” Bryan Ferry’s 1982 hit single that elevated her name to the international music charts. Other albums recorded with Ferry included “Boys and Girls,” “Bete Noire,” “Mamouna,” and “39 Steps.” She joined Ferry in 1988 on his world tour, then again a 2001 reunion tour. Concerts stops included Madison Square Garden in NY, Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Mohntreal,Vancouver, British Columbia, Manchester, Glasgow, London, Japan, New Zealand, Australia.

Yanick’s performances were singled-out for rave reviews by the world’s most prominent newspapers and magazines such as the New York Post, Rolling Stones, Los Angeles Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and Japan Times.   After the release of her first album “Dernst Emile Presents: Yanick Etienne,” she was nominated “Best New Artist” at the “Third Annual Caribbean Music Awards” in March 1993. In May ’95, Yanick performed in The General Assembly Hall at the United Nations’ 50th Anniversary Celebration.  In July ’95, she went home to Haïti to perform for the first time at the International Roots Festival (Bouyon Rasin).   In September 2004, she released her second album “Love Songs for You.”   While taking time to raise two children, Yanick continued to perform locally and in Haiti.
