 Art Basel Miami 2013 : Le Consulat d’Haïti à Miami et les organisations Haïtiennes Locales, Collaborent pour Donner à l’Art Haïtien une Place de Choix a Art Basel 2013

Le Consul Général de la République d’Haïti à Miami, M. François Guillaume II et le Responsable de la section Culturelle et Touristique, Vice Consul Guy François Jr. remercient tous ceux qui ont contribué à faire de la semaine de l’Art Basel Miami 2013 une grande réussite.

Pour lancer les festivités, le samedi 30 Novembre, M. Anthony Box et son épouse Mme Guilène Box on organisée une soirée en leur résidence, pour exhiber les toiles des artistes Haïtiens Philippe Dodard et Jean-Claude Legagneur.

Le Consul Général François Guillaume II, le Vice-consul Guy François Jr. et le Consul Gérard Dorsainvil accompagnés de plusieurs membres du staff consulaire ont participé à une soirée de lancement des activités du “Art Basel Show”.  Le Centre Culturel de Miramar, dans la galerie d’art “Ansin Family Gallery”, présentait une exposition de l’artiste Haïtien Philippe Dodard intitulée “Renaissance”.  L‘Art Basel Show, qui s’est déroulé du 5 au 8 Décembre 2013 à Miami Beach, est un événement annuel considéré comme l’une des plus grandes expositions culturelles d’art contemporain, organisée chaque année depuis Décembre 2002.  Cet événement, semblable à l’Art Basel de Suisse et célébré à Miami Beach, met en valeur plus d’une centaine de galeries d’Art de la Caraïbe, de l’Afrique, de l’Amérique latine, de l’Amérique du Nord, de l’Europe et de l’Asie et nous a enchantés avec les travaux d’artistes de renommée mondiale avec aussi la chance de voir l’éruption de jeunes talents.

Cette soirée était animée par la célèbre actrice Jo Marie Payton de la série télévisée “Family Matters”, Barbara Sharief, Mairesse de Broward County, Lori C. Mosely, Mairesse de Miramar, Alexandra P. Davis, Vice-Mairesse de Miramar, Dr. Babacar M’Bow, conservateur.  M. François Guillaume II, a encouragé tout un chacun à prendre part à cette grande manifestation culturelle en vue de célébrer la diversité à travers l’art, la musique et la culture.  Le Consul Général, a parlé des Haïtiens et des Haïtiens-Américains et de leur attachement à leur culture.  Il les a enjoints à garder cette culture vivante dans leur vie de chaque jour.  Il a saisit l’opportunité pour rappeler qu’Haïti est un pays au leadership émergeant dans la région Caribéenne et il a appelé tous ses fils et filles à participer et à s’impliquer dans cet important chapitre de la vie d’une nation fière.

A Multitudes Gallery, le 4 Décembre, c’était la Soirée de la Diplomatie Haïtienne.  Dr. Babacar M’Bow, avec la collaboration de Mme Guilène Box, Mme Nirva Jeronimo et Mme Tatiana Alexandre, a démarré avec « Caribbean Fantastic » de Jean-Claude Legagneur.  C’était une autre célébration agrémentée de la présence de distingués invités tels que la Mairesse de North Miami, Mme Lucie Tondreau, la Vice-mairesse de Miramar, Mme Alexandra Davis, le Commissaire de Miami Dade County, M. Jean Monestime, 2e district, Commissaire de Broward County, M. Dale Holness, le Député Mme Daphné Campbell, le Représentant de la ville de Miami, M. Pat Santangelo, M. Yvans Morisseau du « Dade County Office of Community Advocacy », du Chef de Police de North Miami, M. Marc Elias Jr. et du Dr. Rudolph Moise.  Ont aussi participé, des membres du Corps Diplomatique et Consulaire comme le Consul Général de France à Miami M. Philippe Létrillart accompagné de son épouse, le Ministre Conseiller d’Haïti à Washington, Mme Bernice Fidélia, l’Attaché Culturel du Canada, Mme Georgette Pepper et le Consul Stephan Gilles.  Les artistes Haïtiens de renommée internationale, Jean-Claude Legagneur et Philippe Dodard, étaient aussi présents.  La soirée a été rendu encore plus agréable avec une autre performance du saxophoniste Gregory Leson, qui nous avait enchanté lors des soirées chez les époux Box et aussi au Centre Culturel de Miramar.

Cette soirée riche en culture s’est poursuivie au Haitian Historical Museum & Archives où Mme Alexandra Barbot et M. Daniel Fils-Aimé nous ont présenté un Groupe d’Artistes Contemporains Haitiens.  Le Vice Consul Guy Francois Jr. et Mme. Paola Pierre ont participé à cette soirée.

Le vendredi 6 Décembre, le Consul Général a pris part à la Réception d’Ouverture organisée par le Haitian Arts Alliance au Centre Culturel de Little Haïti où il a été présenté « Global Caribbean V », une exposition réunissant un groupe d’artistes de la Caraïbes.  Parmi les distingués invités, étaient le Consul Général de France, le Conservateur M. Edouard Duval et Mme Sandy Dorsainvil, Directrice du Centre Culturel qui a prononcé le mot de bienvenue et a tenu des propos de circonstances pour honorer le départ de Nelson Mandela.  Mme Kimberly Green dont la Fondation a sponsorisée un spectacle de la Compagnie de danse Peter London a offert des mots d’encouragements.  Le Consul Général Guillaume, dans son discours, a incité les artistes à continuer à produire et à enrichir la culture Haïtienne.  La matinée a été clôturée par un délicieux déjeuner, courtoisie de l’ancienne Commissaire Michelle Spence- Johns.  Ce soir-là, Multidudes Galerie a fermé la série d’événements avec une Nuit Hollywood, “Une conversation avec Jimmy Jean-Louis” star du film Toussaint Louverture. L’acteur a parlé de son organisation “Hollywood pour Haïti” qui a une vocation à la construction d’écoles en Haïti où ils ont le plus besoin.  Dr Babacar M’Bow et le Consul Général François Guillaume II ont également réaffirmé “la valeur de l’art et de la culture en connectant et ralliant les forces vives des Haïtiens à travers le monde à des initiatives louables en Haïti.”

Le jeudi 5 Décembre, Eveline Pierre et Serge Rodriguez du Haitian Heritage Museum dans le Design District ont ouvert avec une exhibition présentant « Les Jacmeliens Trois, 2013.»  Le Consul General and son assistante Mme. Stephane Coriolan, Vice Consul Guy Francois Jr, Ms. Pascale Marra et Paola Pierre du  Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida ont participé à cette soirée.

Il est a souligné que toutes les soirées Haïtiennes organisées dans le cadre du Art Basel Show ont bénéficiées de la participation des membres des Centres Culturels de Little Haïti et de Miramar ainsi que de Paola Pierre du HACCOF, Dominique Carvonis du Musé Ogier Fombrun en Haiti, Magalie Prezeau du Community Access Center, de Angie Bell de BOUKAN et de l’Attaché Culturel du Consulat, Pascale Marra.

Le mois de Décembre, désigné comme le mois de l’art Haïtien dans le calendrier annuel de la Section Culturelle et Touristique du Consulat, met l’accent sur la promotion de l’art Haïtien.  Elle vous transmet, ci-après, le calendrier des différentes activités, dont certaines continueront jusqu’au mois de Janvier 2014 :

The Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in Miami Joins Forces with Community Organizations to Give Haitian Art A Place of Choice at Art Basel Miami Exhibition 2013

The Consul General of the Republic of Haiti in Miami, Mr. Francois Guillaume II, along with Vice Consul Guy Francois Jr., the official in charge of the Cultural and Tourism Section of the Consulate, want to offer a heartfelt Thank You to everyone who attended the events and especially to those who joined forces in making Art Basel Miami week a smashing success.

On Saturday November 30th, Anthony and Guilène Box hosted the launching of Art Basel Miami Exhibition 2013 at their residence, exhibiting some of the works from renowned Haitian artists   Philippe Dodard and Jean-Claude Legagneur.

The Consul General François Guillaume II, the Vice-Consul Guy François Jr. and Consul Gérard Dorsainvil along with several members of the consular staff attended the first public Haitian exhibit of the Art Basel Opening on Tuesday December 3 at 7:00 Pm.  Art Basel which opened to the public on the 5th of December is considered one of the greatest cultural events of contemporary art, held annually since December 2002.  This affair, similar to the “Art Basel Switzerland” and celebrated in Miami Beach, showcased more than one hundred art galleries from around the world, delighting us with artworks from renowned artists as well as pieces from emerging talents.

This event took place at the Miramar Cultural Center in the Ansin Family Gallery which displayed works of the famous Haitian artist Philippe Dodard in an exhibit entitled “Renaissance”.  It was hosted by the famous Jo Marie Payton from the sitcom “Family Matters”, Barbara Sharief, Mayor of Broward County, Lori C. Moseley, Mayor of Miramar, Alexandra P. Davis, Vice-Mayor of Miramar, and Dr. Babcar M’bow, curator.  The Consul General encouraged everyone to take part in this great cultural event to celebrate diversity through art, music and culture.  He further spoke of Haitians and Haitian-Americans and their appreciation for their culture.  He encouraged them to keep this cultural legacy alive with them in their daily lives.  He seized the opportunity to remind all in attendance that Haiti is a nation emerging as a leader in the Caribbean and is calling on all its brothers and sisters both in Haiti and abroad to get involved and contribute to the journey of this proud nation.

At Multitudes Gallery, on December 4th, it was the Night of Haitian Diplomacy. Dr. Babacar M’bow, Curator, with the collaboration of Mrs. Guilène Box, Mrs. Nirva Jeronimo and Ms. Tatiana Alexandre, opened with Jean-Claude Legagneur “Caribbean Fantastic”.  It was another great night, highlighted by the presence of officials and distinguished guests such as the Mayor of North Miami. Ms. Lucie Tondreau,  Vice Mayor of Miramar, Mrs. Alexandra Davis, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2, Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness, Consul General of France in Miami, Mr. Philippe Létrillart and his wife, Consul Stephan Gilles, Ms. Bernice Fidelia, Deputy Ambassador in Washington, Mrs. Daphne Campbell, State representative, Mrs. Georgette Pepper, Cultural Attaché at the Consulate General of Canada in Miami, Mr. Pat Santangelo, representing the City of Miami, Yvans Morisseau of the Miami-Dade County Office of Community Advocacy, North Miami Chief of Police, Mr. Marc Elias Jr. and Dr. Rudolph Moise.  Also in attendance were Haiti and world renowned artists Jean-Claude Legagneur and Philippe Dodard.  This evening was made particularly special with another performance by saxophonist Gregory Leson who had previously entertained audiences at both the Boxes’ residence and the Miramar Cultural Center.

 

On that same night Mr. Daniel Fils-Aimé and Mrs. Alexandra Barbot of the Haitian Historical Museum & Archives opened with a “GROUP OF HAITIAN CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS”.  In attendance at this Opening were Vice Consul Guy Francois Jr and Ms Paola Pierre of the Hatian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida.

 

On Thursday December 5th Eveline Pierre and Serge Rodriguez of the Haitian Heritage Museum in the Design District opened with a Group Exhibition presenting “LES JACMELIENS TROIS, 2013.”  The Consul General and his assistant Ms. Stephane Coriolan, Vice Consul Guy Francois, Cultural Attaché Ms. Pascale Marra and Ms. Paola Pierre of HACCOF were present at that soirée.

 

On Friday December 6, the Consul General attended the Opening Reception of the Haitian Arts Alliance at the galleries of the Little Haiti Cultural Center where they, presented “Global Caribbean V” a group exhibit gathering artists from the Caribbean.  Among the distinguished guests were the Consul General of France, the Curator Edouard Duval and Ms. Sandy Dorsainvil, director of the Little Haiti Cultural Center who welcomed the guests and paused to remember and honor Nelson Mandela. Mrs. Kimberly Green of the Green Family Foundation offered words of encouragement and sponsored a Special Performance by the Peter London Dance Company.  Consul General Guillaume, in his address, encouraged the artists to continue producing and enriching the Haitian culture.  The morning ended with a delicious luncheon that was served courtesy of former Commissioner Michelle Spence-Johns.  That evening, Multidudes Gallery closed the series of events with a Hollywood Night, “A Talk with Jimmy Jean-Louis” star of the movie Toussaint Louverture. The actor spoke of his organization “Hollywood for Haiti” which has a vocation for building schools in Haiti where they are most needed.  Dr. Babacar M’Bow and the Consul General Francois Guillaume II also reiterated “the value of art and culture in connecting rallying Haitians all over the world, toward worthwhile initiatives in Haiti.”

 

All events were attended by the outstanding staff members of both, the Little Haiti Cultural Center and the Miramar Cultural Center, by Ms. Paola Pierre of the Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida, Mrs. Dominique Carvonis of Muse Ogier Fombrun in Haiti, Ms. Magalie Prezeau of the Community Access Center, Ms. Angie Bell of BOUKAN and by the Consulate Cultural Attaché, Mrs. Pascale Marra.

 

The Consulate reminds the public that during the month of December, chosen as the month of Haitian art in the annual calendar of the Cultural and Tourism Section of the Consulate, the emphasis will be on the promotion of Haitian art. The following is the schedule of the different activities, some of which will be ongoing until the month of April 2014:
